Okay, last day of the festival, I figured I better sign up for one of the sunrise photoshoots. This was in a marshy area of Morro Bay State Park to watch and photograph the numerous shore birds. We had to trudge with our tripod thru some marshy muck, and you had to move it occasionally because it would start sinking. But the birds were plentiful and amazing.

These guys were strutting their stuff right along the waterline. Sorry, don’t know what they are called:

Here is our group sinking into the marsh as the tide was coming in:

As we were packing up to leave, we saw these pelicans diving into the bay. “Birds in flight” is one thing, birds that make a sudden turn and dive into the water are even harder to capture:

And then it was back to the hotel to pack and check out, followed by the closing speeches and giveaways. I came out with a softbox kit and a tripod case. All in all, this was a wonderful experience. Hal and Victoria do an amazing job, and I believe this event will only get better in the future. I for one, definitely plan to attend again!

Your second image — the one you’re not sure of the ID — looks like a long-billed curlew.
Lovely images!
